Community Helps G2S Start Music Program, Guitars Among Gifts to Gateway to Success Academy
The Gateway to Success Academy (G2S) music program has received a lot of support from the community.
The academy got help obtaining instruments and also instructors to teach music and video production. G2S Superintendent and Principal Jamie Bandstra said it’s important to keep fine arts a part of education.
“These are areas that help students develop in so many ways — they’re academic and non-academic,” he said. “I think we have a lot of students who enjoy music and the arts and so I think it’s really important to keep that in part of what we do.”
G2S got help from Ludrock and President Ed Santarelli, who toured the school and saw the potential for a music program.
“We thought a music program there would really be something exceptional,” Santarelli said.
A portion of the Ludrock 2017 funds — about $900 — was designated for G2S music. The academy used the donation to purchase eight guitars.
“We’re very excited about the opportunity to help them,” Santarelli said. “They didn’t have a music program, and there was a big interest in starting one.”
