Journey High School Students Share Thoughts About School's Closing
AMBER TWP. — Journey School’s students and staff said goodbye to each other and goodbye to their alternative high school/junior high as it closed permanently at noon Tuesday.
“It’s a sad day but we are all very excited about the future,” Journey Principal Jamie Bandstra said after the last student had left. “I think the students are more comfortable about leaving knowing the local districts are trying to put something in place to take care of them.”
In 15 months from now, that something else may be Gateway to Success Academy, a new charter school being launched in Mason County by the West Shore Educational Service District.
But that school will not open until fall 2016 so Journey’s students won’t have that option until that time....
... “It’s so good,” she said about the school. “Everyone is so comfortable with everybody. It’s like we’re a family." (Mia Kaiser)
